Clean heating

In Hungary, more than 13,000 people die prematurely every year due to air pollution. On average, these people lose nearly 10 years of their lives.

The main source of air pollution is domestic heating and other residential combustion. This has become particularly worrying in recent years as the use of solid fuels - mainly wood and the worst quality coal, lignite - has (again) become widespread. Even more dangerous is the large-scale (illegal) burning of plastic and other waste in households.

This pollution is responsible for cardiovascular, respiratory, and cancer diseases, among others. Air pollution is a particularly serious risk for children, whose immune systems are less developed. It has long been known that exposure to air pollutants around birth can lead to serious, sometimes irreversible, diseases in adulthood.

Excess carbon dioxide emissions and particulate pollution from inappropriate heating and residential combustion also accelerate global climate change.

As several good examples show, the good news is that it is possible to make significant improvements in a relatively short timeframe through public cooperation and appropriate measures. This is what we want to help you do with this subhelp.

You too can help improve air quality by buying and operating your own air quality meter. You can read more about this here.
